Is it worth it: Dyson Airwrap?
The number of DMs we get asking whether a product is really worth it is wild. Everyone wants to know what’s worth their hard-earned dollars and what’s just hype. We get it, no one wants to waste their money. So, we’re breaking it down: what products we genuinely think are worth the splurge, and which ones just don’t justify the price tag.
First up, the internet’s most talked-about hair tool: the Dyson Airwrap. A bunch of the girls in the office own one, so naturally, I had to investigate. Here’s what they had to say.
How long have you had it?
Brooke: 2 years
Jess: 4 years
Victoria: 6 years
Georgia: 4 years
How often do you use it?
Brooke: Once a week
Jess: 3-4 times a week
Victoria: Every second day
Georgia: "Pretty religiously once a week. Lately though, I’ve been reaching for my Dyson Air Straight more (which I lowkey love), also because I need to justify the cost per use. Oops priorities."
Why choose this over a regular hair dryer or straightener?
Brooke: "It dries my hair and styles it so I don't have to use two tools, girl math its half the price!"
Jess: "I think if you want it for curling your hair specifically than it's probs not worth it but if you're like me and have zero hand eye coordination and can't do the brush and blowdryer thing than its brill."
Victoria: "I picked this over something like a hairdryer or straightener because your girl does it all. I feel like my hair looks so much nicer when I use my Dyson air wrap than a straightener, and it has never been healthier."
Georgia: "I found it was much healthier for my hair than my hair dryer (I think maybe not as hot), I mostly love having the brush attachments (thick hair girly) especially when I had really long hair because drying my hair was the bane of my existence. I sometimes would use my straightener after just to make it super smooth."
What don’t you love about it?
Brooke: "The box to fit all the accessories in is sooo bulky and its not easy to travel with."
Victoria: "How bulky it feels when you travel with it, when I used to just use a hair straightener you kinda like wrap the cord around itself, and it becomes quite a compact thing in your bag, whereas with my Dyson air wrap, you have the air wrap and then the various attachments and they are a little bit bulkier."
Jess: "I don't like that the curls don't hold the way that it does if I get a blow out, but that is highly likely user error, I also bought it before the long barrelled version existed, so my hair barely fits on the curling wands but I can't buy the long barrels separately bc they have been sold out for like 3 years haha."
Georgia: "Mine’s the older model, so you have to manually swap out all the barrels but TBH I never curl my hair with it I mainly use the brush attachments."
Would you recommend it to a friend?
Brooke: "Yes! It has made me look like I know what I'm doing when it comes to hair and I most certainly do not!"
Victoria: "I absolutely would recommend it to a friend, but when recommending it, I think that I would want that friend to know that they have to invest the time in learning how to use it properly because so many people don’t use it properly and then say it was crap because it didn’t work, but in reality, they just weren’t using the tool properly and there is definitely a learning curve with it."
Jess: "I would recommend getting it on sale with cashback."
Georgia: "I bought it when the long barrels came out and if you have longish hair, I would definitely reccommend it. I do think it depends on hair type if you’d like it and also what you value because it’s not cheap. Because I would spend so much money at the hairdressers, I try to keep my hair as healthy as possible in between apts. and unfortunately, that means hair products and tools are kind of an investment but worth it to me. Now there are often sales (RIP my bank account in 2021 when I think I paid full price), I would never pay full price now, always wait for a sale, and always use some kind of cashback. I also recently purchased the diffuser attachment which is TBC if it was worth it or not (also feels like it should be included with how much it was!)"
